This past weekend, my best friend and I took time to get away for the night and visit the Ohio Valley Antique Mall. Here’s what we discovered.
melamine plates
and stoneware bowls
wooden stools
and furry-haired Trolls
Christmas ornaments
from long-ago trees
mounted antlers
and skeleton keys
vintage Barbies
old bird cages
antique books
with yellowing pages
perfume bottles
mercury glass
china saucers
and plenty of brass
crocheted afghans
concert tees
dust-covered albums
that made me sneeze
aisles of antiques
stretching for acres
dollhouse couches
salt and pepper shakers
My best friend and I
slowed down for a day,
admiring old things
as we chatted away.
Though we bought very little,
we left with so much.
The best part of the trip
was staying in touch.

One of the perks of retirement is being able to take off for a fun adventure when a friend calls. Of course, the adventure is fun, but nothing beats the time spent getting together with a friend.

I really enjoyed our antiquing trip, and I was so grateful to my friend for planning it.

Lori, your post has me wanting to pack an overnight bag and head to one of those magical adventures!!! As you said so wonderfully, “you left with so much.”

I love how this ends. So true! This reminds me I need to call one of my long time friends and see how she is doing.

Lori,
Purchases aren’t necessary for a shopping trip with a friend to be a success. Years ago I read a book called “Women Speak: The Eloquence of Women’s Lives” that included a chapter on shopping as communication. I rather love that idea. -
Oh fun! What a rich list of specifics. (I am looking for a wooden stool). 😂
“Though we bought very little, / we left with so much.”
You left the reader with a lot too.
